equitable
Fair by giving each person what they need.
Something equitable is fair in a way that takes everyone's different situations into account. It's about giving people what they specifically need to have a fair chance, rather than simply giving everyone the exact same thing.
Imagine two students who both want to read the same book. One student can see perfectly well, but the other has vision problems. Treating them equally means handing them both the same regular book. Treating them equitably means giving one student the regular book and the other student a large-print version or audiobook. Both students end up with a fair opportunity to read, but they didn't get identical treatment.
When something is equitable, everyone has what they need to succeed, even if what they receive looks different.
