eventually
After some time passes, in the end it happens.
Eventually means after some time has passed, or in the end. When something happens eventually, it doesn't happen right away, but it does happen if you wait long enough.
If you're learning to ride a bike, you might wobble and fall at first, but eventually you'll get the hang of it. When you plant a seed, it won't sprout immediately, but eventually a plant will emerge. If you save your allowance week after week, eventually you'll have enough money for that game you want.
The word often suggests patience or persistence. When a teacher says “you'll understand this eventually,” they mean keep trying and it will make sense in time. When someone says “I'll finish my homework eventually,” they might mean they're procrastinating, but they know they'll get it done.
Eventually doesn't tell you exactly when something will happen. It might be in five minutes, five days, or five years. The key is that time passes between now and then. If your parents say you can eventually get a pet, they're not saying no, but they're also not saying yes right now.
