excellent
Very, very good or of really high quality.
Excellent means exceptionally good or of very high quality. When your teacher writes “excellent work” on your essay, she's saying it's really outstanding. When a chef prepares an excellent meal, every dish tastes delicious and looks beautiful.
An excellent student passes tests and truly understands the material, able to apply it in new ways. An excellent soccer player knows the rules and has developed real skill through practice and dedication.
Excellence shows up in all kinds of places. A musician might give an excellent performance that moves the audience. A scientist might do excellent research that advances human knowledge. Even small things can be excellent: an excellent apple pie, an excellent joke, an excellent afternoon spent with friends.
When you pursue excellence in something, you're aiming to do it as well as you possibly can. This doesn't mean being perfect (which is impossible), but giving your genuine best effort and attention to whatever you're doing. Excellence is what happens when skill, effort, and care come together.
