feature
A special part or characteristic that stands out.
The word feature has several meanings:
- A distinctive part or characteristic of something. The features of your face include your eyes, nose, and mouth: the parts that make you recognizable. A smartphone's features might include its camera quality, battery life, and screen size. When describing a house, you might talk about special features like a fireplace or a large backyard. Scientists studying animals describe their physical features: a giraffe's long neck, a peacock's colorful tail, or an elephant's trunk.
- To include someone or something as an important part. A movie might feature a famous actor in the leading role. A school concert could feature performances by the choir, band, and orchestra. A museum exhibit might feature paintings from the Renaissance. When a magazine features an athlete on its cover, that person becomes the main focus.
- A main article in a newspaper or magazine, longer and more detailed than regular news stories. A feature story might explore what it's like to train for the Olympics or how scientists discovered a new species of butterfly. These articles go deeper than just reporting facts: they tell fuller stories with vivid details and interesting perspectives.
