finger
The five small parts at the end of your hand.
Your fingers are the five separate parts at the end of each hand that let you grip, point, type, and feel. Without them, simple tasks like tying shoes, writing with a pencil, or picking up a coin would be nearly impossible. Each finger has its own name: thumb, index finger (the pointer), middle finger (the tallest), ring finger (where people often wear rings), and pinky (the smallest).
As a verb, finger means to touch or handle something with your fingers.
When something is described as finger-width, it means about as wide as one of your fingers. Musicians talk about fingering when they describe which fingers to use for playing notes on an instrument. You might also hear someone say they can't quite put their finger on something, meaning they sense something but can't quite identify or explain it exactly, like knowing a word but not being able to remember it.
