firewoman
A woman whose job is to fight fires and rescue people.
A firewoman is a woman whose job is to put out fires and rescue people from dangerous situations. Firefighters respond to emergency calls, drive fire trucks, operate powerful water hoses, and enter burning buildings to save lives. They also help during car accidents, medical emergencies, and natural disasters.
The job requires tremendous physical strength, courage, and teamwork. Firewomen train constantly to stay ready: they practice climbing ladders while carrying heavy equipment, learn how to break through doors and windows, and study how fires spread through different types of buildings. They live together at the fire station during their shifts, eating meals and sleeping there so they can respond instantly when an emergency call comes in.
Today's firewomen meet the same demanding physical tests and training standards as their colleagues. The work is challenging and important regardless of the firefighter's gender.
The term firewoman is less common than firefighter, which describes anyone who fights fires regardless of gender.
