forehead
The flat part of your face above your eyebrows.
Your forehead is the flat part of your face between your eyebrows and your hairline. It's the smooth area above your eyes that wrinkles when you raise your eyebrows in surprise or furrow them when you're confused.
The forehead protects an important part of your skull called the frontal bone, which shields the front part of your brain. This is where much of your thinking, planning, and decision-making happens. When you concentrate hard on a math problem, you might unconsciously touch or rub your forehead.
In many cultures, touching foreheads is a gesture of affection or greeting. Parents might kiss a child's forehead to check for a fever or show love. Some athletes bump foreheads before a big game to show solidarity and determination.
People often describe someone as having a high forehead (extending far up) or a low forehead (closer to the eyebrows). The expression “written all over your forehead” means something is so obvious from your face that it's as if the words are displayed there for everyone to read.
