forge
To carefully create or shape something, sometimes dishonestly.
To forge means to create or shape something through hard, determined effort. A blacksmith forges metal by heating it until it glows red-hot, then hammering it into useful shapes: horseshoes, tools, or gates. The blacksmith's workshop is called a forge, where the fire burns hot enough to make iron bendable.
The word extends beyond metalwork. You can forge a friendship by spending time together and building trust through shared experiences. A team forges unity by working through challenges together. A leader might forge a new path forward when facing a difficult problem. When you forge something in this sense, you're creating it through persistent effort, often overcoming obstacles along the way.
Forge can also mean to create a fake copy of something to deceive people. Someone might forge a signature by copying another person's handwriting, or forge a document to make it look official when it isn't.
The metalworking meaning helps explain the others: just as a blacksmith shapes metal through heat and pressure, you forge relationships and achievements through effort and perseverance.
