gardener
A person who grows and takes care of plants.
A gardener is someone who grows and cares for plants, whether vegetables, flowers, trees, or shrubs. Gardeners plant seeds, water growing plants, pull weeds, prune branches, and harvest what they've grown. Some gardeners work professionally, maintaining parks, estates, or botanical gardens, while others garden as a hobby in their own backyards.
Gardening requires patience and attention. A gardener can't rush a tomato plant to produce fruit faster or force a rosebush to bloom on command. Instead, gardeners learn what each plant needs: how much sunlight, water, and space. They watch for signs of problems, like yellowing leaves or hungry insects, and respond carefully. Many gardeners develop an intuitive sense of what their plants need, noticing small changes that others might miss.
The work can be physically demanding. Gardeners dig, carry heavy bags of soil, kneel for long stretches, and work in hot sun or cold rain. But many gardeners find the work deeply satisfying. There's something special about eating vegetables you grew yourself or cutting flowers from plants you nurtured from tiny seedlings. A skilled gardener transforms bare dirt into something beautiful and productive through knowledge, effort, and time.
