gazette
An official newspaper that publishes important government or public notices.
A gazette is an official newspaper or journal, especially one published by a government or organization to announce important information. When a new law gets passed or someone receives an official appointment, it might be published in the government's gazette so everyone knows about it.
Many cities and towns have newspapers with “Gazette” in their name, like the Phoenix Gazette or Boston Gazette. These publications borrowed the word to sound official and trustworthy, even though most are regular newspapers covering local news, sports, and events, rather than just government announcements.
The word can also be a verb meaning to publish something officially. When a military promotion is gazetted, it's formally announced in an official publication, making it part of the permanent record. In some countries, if your name appears in the gazette for an honor or achievement, it becomes part of the official historical record that anyone can look up years later.
