generosity
A willingness to share or give freely to others.
Generosity means giving freely to others without expecting anything in return. A generous person shares their time, money, knowledge, or resources because they genuinely want to help or bring joy to someone else.
Generosity shows up in many forms. When you spend your Saturday helping a neighbor rake leaves, that's generous with your time. When someone donates money to build a new library, that's generous with resources. When a classmate patiently explains a confusing math problem, that's generous with knowledge. A generous friend might share their lunch when you forget yours, or invite someone sitting alone to join their group.
True generosity comes from an abundance of spirit, from a genuine desire to help or share. You can be generous even with very little. The word can also describe scale or amount: a generous portion of cake is larger than expected, or a teacher might give a generous deadline extension.
The opposite of generosity is stinginess, holding tightly to what you have. While being careful with resources makes sense, generosity often creates happiness and helps build stronger friendships and communities.
