gluttony
Extreme overeating that ignores health, needs, or others.
Gluttony means excessive eating or drinking, far beyond what your body needs or what's reasonable. It's not about enjoying a big meal or having seconds at Thanksgiving. Gluttony means eating so much that it becomes harmful or wasteful, often without regard for others or for your own well-being.
In medieval times, gluttony was considered one of the seven deadly sins because it represented a lack of self-control and an obsession with physical pleasure. The idea was that someone consumed by gluttony cared more about satisfying their appetite than about other things like family, work, or helping others.
A glutton is someone who eats excessively. You might hear someone called “a glutton for punishment,” which is a playful expression meaning they keep doing something difficult or unpleasant even when they could stop. For example, if your friend keeps attempting harder and harder skateboard tricks despite falling repeatedly, someone might joke that they're a glutton for punishment.
