golfer
A person who plays the sport of golf.
A golfer is someone who plays golf, a game where players use special clubs to hit a small, dimpled ball across a large outdoor course, trying to get it into a series of holes using as few strokes as possible. The best golfers combine precision, patience, and strategy: they need to judge distances accurately, control their swing, and read how the terrain will affect each shot.
Golf courses have 18 holes, each with its own challenges like sand traps, water hazards, and varying distances. A golfer might use different clubs for different situations: a driver for long distances off the starting point (called the tee), irons for middle-range shots, and a putter for rolling the ball gently into the hole on the smooth green grass surrounding it.
Professional golfers like Tiger Woods or Annika Sörenstam compete in tournaments around the world, but millions of people enjoy golf recreationally. Some golfers play seriously and track their scores carefully, while others simply enjoy walking the course on a sunny day. Either way, golf rewards practice and concentration: even small improvements in technique can make a real difference in how well a golfer plays.
