grandchild
A child of your son or daughter.
A grandchild is your child's child. If you have a daughter named Sarah and she has a son named Michael, then Michael is your grandchild. Your parents' grandchildren are you and your siblings.
The relationship works both ways: Michael calls you his grandfather or grandmother (often shortened to grandpa or grandma), and you call him your grandchild. When people have more than one grandchild, they use the plural form grandchildren.
Grandparents often have a special bond with their grandchildren. They get to enjoy watching them grow up without all the daily responsibilities that parents have. A grandmother might teach her grandchild to bake cookies using a recipe passed down through generations. A grandfather might share stories about what life was like when he was young, or teach his grandchild to fish at the same lake where he learned as a boy.
Many families treasure the connection between grandparents and grandchildren because it links different generations together. Your grandparents can tell you about a world you never experienced directly, and you can share with them the new things happening in yours.
