grown
Having become bigger, older, or more developed over time.
Grown is the past participle of the verb grow, meaning something has increased in size, developed, or matured over time. When your parents show you photos from when you were a baby, they might say, “Look how much you've grown!” meaning you're taller and bigger now. Plants that have grown have sprouted from seeds and developed leaves, stems, and maybe flowers or fruit.
The word also describes adults: a grown-up is someone who has reached full physical maturity. When people say, “She's all grown now,” they mean she's become an adult. Sometimes parents use grown to talk about emotional maturity too, as in “You've really grown this year” after you've handled difficult situations with more patience or wisdom.
You'll also hear grown in phrases that describe development. Home-grown tomatoes are ones that grew in your own garden rather than on a farm far away. When something has grown on you, it means you've come to like it more over time, even if you didn't enjoy it at first. And when someone says an idea has grown out of a conversation, they mean the idea developed or emerged from that discussion.
