guesser
A person who tries to find answers by guessing.
A guesser is someone who makes guesses: attempts to find an answer without having complete information. When you're a guesser on a multiple-choice test, you choose an answer even though you're not certain it's correct. When your friend tries to guess how many jellybeans are in a jar, they're being a guesser.
The word can describe someone who guesses frequently or relies on guessing as a strategy. A careful researcher gathers evidence before drawing conclusions, while a guesser might jump to answers based on hunches or incomplete data. Some people are naturally good guessers because they notice patterns or make smart inferences from limited clues.
In everyday conversation, calling someone a guesser isn't necessarily criticism. Sometimes guessing is exactly what a situation requires: when you don't have time for research, when perfect information isn't available, or when you're playing a guessing game like charades. A skilled guesser combines whatever information they do have with logical thinking and intuition. The key difference between wild guessing and educated guessing is how much thought and reasoning goes into the attempt.
