hobbyist
A person who does an activity for fun, not money.
A hobbyist is someone who pursues an activity for pleasure and personal satisfaction rather than for money or as a profession. A hobbyist woodworker might spend weekends building birdhouses or furniture in their garage because they enjoy working with their hands and seeing what they can create. A hobbyist photographer takes pictures for the love of capturing beautiful moments, not because anyone hired them.
The key difference between a hobbyist and a professional is motivation and livelihood. A professional chef cooks for a living and must satisfy paying customers. A hobbyist chef experiments with recipes on Sunday afternoons because cooking brings them joy. Both might be equally skilled, but only one depends on their craft to pay the bills.
Some hobbyists eventually turn their hobbies into careers, like a hobbyist coder who becomes a professional software developer. Others prefer keeping their hobby separate from work, finding that doing something purely for enjoyment, without pressure or deadlines, gives them energy and creativity.
