hoggish
Greedy and selfish, taking more than your fair share.
Hoggish means greedy and selfish, especially about food or other things you want for yourself. The word comes from how hogs (another word for pigs) behave at feeding time: they push other animals aside, gobble up everything in sight, and don't share.
When someone acts hoggish, they take more than their fair share without thinking about others. A hoggish person at a pizza party might grab four slices before everyone has gotten one. A hoggish student might hoard all the art supplies during a project instead of letting classmates use them.
You might also hear the word piggish, which means the same thing. Both words suggest wanting a lot in a crude, thoughtless way that shows no consideration for others. Someone can be wealthy or hungry without being hoggish, but add in that grabbing, selfish behavior and you've crossed into hoggish territory.
The opposite of hoggish behavior is being generous or considerate: making sure everyone gets a fair turn, taking only what you need, and thinking about others before yourself.
