homeschooling
Teaching children at home rather than in school.
Homeschooling is when parents teach their children at home instead of sending them to a traditional school. Some families homeschool because they want to move faster or slower than a typical classroom, focus on particular subjects, or include different types learning. Some families homeschool because their kids have specific needs that are not well served by a traditional school. Others homeschool for religious reasons or because they travel frequently.
Homeschooling requires dedication from parents, who must plan lessons, find teaching materials, and make sure their children learn what they need to know. Many homeschooled students join co-ops where several families teach together, take classes at community centers, or participate in sports teams with other homeschoolers.
