human
A person, with human feelings, thoughts, and imperfections.
Human means belonging to or characteristic of people, as opposed to animals, machines, or imaginary beings. When we say someone made a human error, we mean they made the kind of mistake that people naturally make because we're not perfect. When we talk about human nature, we're discussing the qualities and behaviors that people tend to share, like curiosity, creativity, or the need for friendship.
The word can also be a noun: a human is simply a person. Scientists sometimes use it this way to distinguish people from other species, like when they study how human brains differ from dolphin or chimpanzee brains.
What makes something human often involves emotions, imperfection, and connection. A robot might calculate perfectly, but when your friend forgets your birthday and feels terrible about it, that's deeply human. A computer can write sentences, but when someone crafts a heartfelt letter that makes you laugh and cry, that's human expression. When people talk about treating others with humanity, they mean showing kindness, compassion, and respect for the fact that we all make mistakes, feel emotions, and need each other.
The phrase human being means the same thing as human when used as a noun, just with a bit more emphasis on the wonder of what we are: thinking, feeling, creative creatures.
