immigrate
To move to a new country to live there permanently.
To immigrate means to move permanently from one country to another to make it your new home. When people immigrate, they leave behind their homeland and build a new life somewhere else, bringing their families, skills, and dreams with them.
Throughout history, millions of people have immigrated to new countries around the world. Some come seeking better jobs or education, others flee wars or natural disasters, and many simply hope for opportunities they couldn't find at home.
Immigrating requires tremendous courage and effort. Imagine packing up everything important to you, learning a new language, adapting to unfamiliar customs, and starting over in a place where you might not know anyone. Immigrants often work extremely hard to succeed in their new country while maintaining connections to their original culture.
Notice that you immigrate to a country (where you're going) but you emigrate from a country (where you're leaving). Someone who has completed this move is called an immigrant. The process of moving between countries this way is called immigration.
