inconspicuous
Not easily seen or noticed; not attracting attention.
Inconspicuous means not easily noticed or attracting attention. Something inconspicuous blends into its surroundings or doesn't stand out. A small, gray moth resting on tree bark is inconspicuous because its color matches the bark. A student who sits quietly in the back corner of the classroom might be inconspicuous compared to one who constantly raises their hand.
The opposite is conspicuous, which means highly visible or obvious. While a bright red sports car is conspicuous on a highway full of white and silver sedans, a silver sedan in that same traffic is inconspicuous.
Animals often use inconspicuous coloring as camouflage to hide from predators or sneak up on prey. A fawn's spotted coat makes it inconspicuous in dappled forest sunlight. Sometimes people try to be inconspicuous when they don't want attention: a kid who forgot their homework might try to make themselves inconspicuous when the teacher asks who completed the assignment. Security cameras in stores are often designed to be inconspicuous so shoppers don't feel like they're being watched.
