interested
Wanting to know more about something or really caring about it.
Interested means curious about something or wanting to know more about it. When you're interested in dinosaurs, you might check out library books about them, watch documentaries, or visit natural history museums. When a friend tells you about their weekend and you're genuinely interested, you listen carefully and ask questions because you really want to hear what happened.
Being interested is different from just being polite. You might nod along when your uncle talks about his golf game without being truly interested, but when your teacher starts explaining how ancient Egyptians built the pyramids and you lean forward in your seat, eager to learn more, that's real interest.
The word can also mean having a stake in something. If your parents own shares in a company, they have a financial interest in whether it succeeds. If a judge's sibling is involved in a case, the judge has a personal interest and probably shouldn't decide it. When someone says they have an interest in a business, they mean they own part of it or will benefit somehow from its success.
