introvert
A person who feels best with alone time or few friends.
An introvert is someone who tends to feel more energized and comfortable when spending time alone or with just one or two close friends, rather than in large groups. While extroverts gain energy from being around lots of people, introverts often find that socializing drains their energy, even when they're having fun. After a busy day at school full of conversations and activities, an introvert usually needs some quiet time alone to recharge, like reading a book, drawing, or just thinking.
Being an introvert doesn't mean someone is shy or dislikes people. Many introverts enjoy friendships and social activities, but they prefer deeper conversations with a few people over small talk with many. An introverted student might skip the big cafeteria table to eat lunch with one close friend, not because they're unfriendly, but because that's what feels right to them.
Introverts often think carefully before speaking and may prefer to process their thoughts internally rather than talking through problems out loud. They might excel at activities requiring focus and concentration, like writing, coding, or solving complex puzzles.
The opposite of an introvert is an extrovert, someone who gains energy from being around others.
