kilted
Wearing a traditional Scottish skirt called a kilt.
Kilted means wearing a kilt, which is a knee-length, skirt-like garment traditionally worn by men in Scotland. A kilt is made from wool fabric with a distinctive plaid or tartan pattern, and it's pleated in the back while flat in the front.
When you see someone described as kilted, they're dressed in this traditional Scottish outfit. Scottish soldiers called Highlanders wore kilts into battle for centuries, and today people wear them at Scottish festivals, weddings, and Highland Games competitions like caber tossing (throwing huge wooden poles). Each tartan pattern often represents a different Scottish clan or family.
While kilts are most associated with Scotland, similar garments appear in other cultures too. If you visit Scotland during a celebration, you'll likely see kilted bagpipers marching in parades, their kilts swaying as they walk.
