mailman
A person whose job is to deliver mail and packages.
A mailman (also called a mail carrier or letter carrier) is a person whose job is to deliver mail to homes and businesses. Every day, mailmen walk or drive through neighborhoods, carrying letters, packages, magazines, and bills to the right addresses. They work for postal services like the United States Postal Service, and they know their routes so well they can often tell you which house has the big oak tree or the friendly dog.
The job requires reliability and attention to detail. A mailman needs to read addresses carefully, organize hundreds of pieces of mail, and deliver them in all kinds of weather. Before email and text messages, mailmen were essential connections between people, bringing handwritten letters from distant relatives, birthday cards from grandparents, and important documents that families were waiting for.
Today, even though we send fewer letters, mailmen still deliver packages ordered online, medicine, legal documents, and those birthday cards grandparents still love to send. The word mailman traditionally referred to men in this job, but now people often say mail carrier because people of all genders deliver mail.
