marksmanship
The skill of aiming and shooting very accurately at targets.
Marksmanship is the skill of shooting accurately at a target, whether with a rifle, bow and arrow, or another projectile weapon. A person with excellent marksmanship can consistently hit what they're aiming at, even from a distance or under challenging conditions.
Developing marksmanship takes patience, practice, and attention to detail. Good marksmen learn to control their breathing, hold steady, account for wind and distance, and squeeze the trigger smoothly rather than jerking it. Olympic shooters spend years perfecting their marksmanship to hit targets the size of a coin from across a field. Similarly, archers practice their marksmanship to hit bullseyes reliably.
While marksmanship often appears in military or hunting contexts, it's really about precision and control. A person demonstrating good marksmanship in an archery competition shows the same focus and steadiness as someone practicing careful aim at a shooting range. The skill requires both physical control and mental discipline: your hands must be steady, but your mind must be calm and focused on the fundamentals you've practiced.
