mediocre
Just okay and ordinary, not very good or exciting.
Mediocre means not very good, but not terrible either: just ordinary or average in a disappointing way. When something is mediocre, it's like getting a shrug instead of a smile.
A mediocre pizza might be edible but forgettable, nothing like the amazing slice you remember from your favorite restaurant. A mediocre book report shows the assignment was done, but without much effort or interesting ideas. A soccer team might have a mediocre season, winning some games and losing others, never quite playing up to its potential.
The word carries a sense of missed opportunity. When we call something mediocre, we usually mean it could have been better. A mediocre painting from a talented artist suggests it was rushed. A mediocre performance from a prepared musician suggests they didn't bring their full energy.
