mesh
A material of woven threads or wires with tiny holes.
A mesh is a material made of threads, wires, or fibers woven together with small spaces between them, creating a net-like pattern. Window screens use mesh to let fresh air flow through while keeping bugs outside. Basketball jerseys often use mesh fabric because the tiny holes allow sweat to evaporate and keep players cool. Chain-link fences are made of wire mesh strong enough to mark boundaries but open enough to see through.
The word also describes how gears fit together in a machine. When gears mesh properly, their teeth interlock so they can turn smoothly and transfer power. If they don't mesh well, the machine might grind, slip, or break down.
When ideas or plans mesh, they fit together naturally and work well as a unit. If your suggestion for the class play meshes with your teacher's vision, the two ideas complement each other and make the project better. When people's personalities mesh, they get along easily because their styles and interests align. You might say, “Our ideas just meshed perfectly,” after a successful group project where everyone's contributions fit together seamlessly.
