mover
A person who helps move people’s furniture and boxes.
A mover is someone or something that causes motion or change. A professional mover helps people transport their belongings when they relocate to a new home, loading furniture into trucks and carrying boxes up stairs. Moving companies employ movers who know how to pack fragile items safely and lift heavy objects without injury.
In a broader sense, movers are people who make things happen. When teachers describe a student as a mover and shaker, they mean someone who takes initiative and influences others. In history, the great movers weren't always the loudest people in the room: they were the ones who saw what needed doing and found ways to do it.
The phrase prime mover refers to whatever starts a chain of events, like the first domino that knocks down all the others. In a school fundraiser, the prime mover might be the student who first suggested the idea and rallied everyone else to participate.
Something can be a fast mover or slow mover too: a popular book that flies off library shelves is a fast mover, while an unpopular one that gathers dust is a slow mover.
