neurologist
A doctor who treats problems with the brain and nerves.
A neurologist is a doctor who specializes in the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. These doctors help people whose brains or nervous systems aren't working quite right. If someone has frequent headaches that won't go away, experiences seizures, or struggles with memory problems, a neurologist tries to figure out what's causing the trouble and how to treat it.
Neurologists spend years learning how the brain controls everything we do: moving our muscles, remembering facts, feeling sensations, and even regulating our heartbeat. They use special tests and equipment to examine the nervous system. They might test reflexes with that little rubber hammer, study brain scans to look for problems, or check how well nerves are sending signals through the body.
Neurologists treat conditions like epilepsy, migraines, Parkinson's disease, and the effects of strokes. Some neurologists also work as researchers, trying to understand mysterious brain disorders or develop new treatments for conditions that currently have no cure.
