obtrusive
Too noticeable in an annoying or unwanted way.
Something obtrusive pushes itself forward in an unwelcome or unpleasant way, demanding attention when it shouldn't. An obtrusive noise interrupts your concentration. An obtrusive smell fills a room. An obtrusive person keeps inserting themselves into conversations where they aren't wanted.
Obtrusive things thrust themselves into your awareness. A bright neon sign might be obtrusive in a quiet neighborhood. Background music becomes obtrusive when it's so loud you can't talk to your friends. A security camera mounted right above your desk feels obtrusive because it's constantly in your line of sight.
Notice the difference between obtrusive and simply noticeable. A beautiful painting is noticeable, but not obtrusive. An obtrusive thing bothers you or gets in your way. When you're reading and someone keeps tapping their pencil loudly, that tapping is obtrusive. When someone constantly interrupts during class discussions, those interruptions are obtrusive.
The opposite is unobtrusive: something that stays quietly in the background, doing its job without demanding attention or getting in the way.
