okay
Acceptable or fine, or a way to agree to something.
Okay (also spelled OK or O.K.) is one of the most useful words in English, meaning acceptable, adequate, or fine. When your mom asks if you want pizza for dinner and you say “okay,” you're agreeing. When your teacher asks if you understand the math problem and you nod and say “okay,” you're confirming you've got it.
The word usually suggests something is good enough, even if not perfect. If a friend asks how your soccer game went and you say “it was okay,” you mean it wasn't terrible but wasn't your best performance either. An okay grade is passing but not outstanding. Okay sits comfortably in the middle: not great, not awful, just acceptable.
You can use okay in several ways: as an adjective (“The movie was okay”), as an adverb (“That went okay”), as a response meaning yes (“Okay, I'll do my homework now”), or to check on someone (“Are you okay?”). The word works like social glue, helping conversations flow smoothly and showing you're paying attention.
