outie
A belly button that sticks out like a little bump.
An outie is a belly button that sticks out instead of going in. Most people have “innies,” where their belly button forms a small dent or hollow in their stomach. But some people have outies, where the belly button pokes out like a little bump or knob.
Your belly button is the scar left behind from your umbilical cord, which connected you to your mother before you were born. Whether you end up with an innie or an outie has nothing to do with how the doctor cut the cord. It depends on how your body healed and how the scar tissue formed. Only about 10% of people have outies.
Some kids worry about having an outie, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's just one of many ways bodies can be different, like having attached or unattached earlobes. Whether your belly button is an innie or an outie doesn't affect your health or how your body works.
