outnumbered
Having fewer people on your side than the other side.
When you're outnumbered, there are more of them than there are of you. A soccer team is outnumbered if they're playing with only ten players against a full team of eleven. A group of three friends might feel outnumbered at a party where they only know each other but everyone else seems to know one another.
Being outnumbered often means facing a disadvantage, but not always. In a classroom debate, you might be outnumbered five to one but still win through better arguments and clearer thinking. History remembers many battles where outnumbered forces won through strategy, determination, or clever tactics.
You'll often hear it in phrases like heavily outnumbered (when the difference is really big) or badly outnumbered (when the situation seems particularly tough). Sometimes people say they're outnumbered when their siblings gang up on them, or when they're the only person who wants pizza while everyone else votes for tacos. Being outnumbered means the numbers aren't in your favor, but numbers don't tell the whole story of what happens next.
