overabundance
Having way too much of something, more than you need.
An overabundance is having way too much of something, more than you need or can reasonably use. An overabundance goes past regular abundance (having plenty) into the territory of overwhelming surplus.
If your family's garden produces an overabundance of tomatoes, you might have so many that you're giving bags away to neighbors, making sauce, and still watching some spoil on the vine. A library with an overabundance of mystery novels might have three entire walls devoted to them, crowding out other genres. During Halloween, a kid might collect an overabundance of candy, filling multiple pillowcases beyond what anyone could possibly eat.
While abundance usually sounds positive (having enough and then some), overabundance often hints at a problem. An overabundance of homework leaves no time for playing outside. An overabundance of choices at an ice cream shop might make it impossible to decide. Sometimes having too much creates its own complications, whether it's clutter in your room from an overabundance of toys or feeling overwhelmed by an overabundance of commitments on your calendar.
