park
To leave a vehicle in a place for a while.
Park can mean several different things:
- A piece of land set aside for people to enjoy outdoors, with grass, trees, playgrounds, or sports fields. Cities create parks so people have space to play, picnic, walk dogs, or just relax under the trees. Some parks are small neighborhood spots with swings and a sandbox. Others, like Yellowstone or Central Park, are enormous areas preserved for everyone to explore and enjoy.
- To leave a vehicle in a particular spot. When you park a car, you steer it into a parking space and turn off the engine. Drivers look for places to park near stores or schools. You might also park your bicycle in a bike rack.
- To put something down and leave it temporarily. If you're carrying heavy grocery bags and need to open a door, you might park the bags on the ground for a moment. A student told to stop playing with a fidget toy might be asked to park it on their desk until recess.
