patriotism
Love and loyalty you feel for your own country.
Patriotism is love and loyalty toward your country. A patriotic person cares deeply about their nation's well-being, honors its traditions, and wants it to succeed and flourish.
Patriotism shows up in many ways. Some people display patriotic feelings by flying their country's flag, singing the national anthem, or serving in the military. Others express patriotism through civic participation: voting in elections, volunteering in their communities, or working to solve problems facing their fellow citizens. A scientist making breakthrough discoveries, a teacher inspiring students, or a neighbor helping others during a crisis can all be acting patriotically.
Patriotism can mean recognizing your country's flaws and working to improve them, much like you might love your family while still wanting everyone to do better.
Different countries inspire patriotism in different ways: their landscapes, achievements, values, or the opportunities they provide. What matters is the genuine affection and commitment people feel toward the place they call home and the fellow citizens they share it with.
