pegboard
A board with holes for putting pegs to hang things.
A pegboard is a flat board with a grid of evenly spaced holes drilled into it. You insert pegs, hooks, or other attachments into these holes to hang tools, organize supplies, or create displays.
In workshops and garages, pegboards are incredibly useful for keeping tools visible and within reach. A mechanic might hang wrenches, screwdrivers, and hammers on pegboard hooks, with each tool's outline traced on the board so she knows exactly where everything belongs. When a tool is missing, the empty space makes it obvious.
Teachers use pegboards in classrooms to display student work or organize art supplies. Stores use them to show merchandise. Some people even use pegboards as crafting stations, hanging scissors, ribbon spools, and paint bottles where they can grab them easily.
The word can also refer to a children's toy: a board full of holes and colorful pegs that fit into them. Kids push the pegs into the holes to create patterns, pictures, or designs. These pegboard toys help young children develop fine motor skills and recognize colors and shapes while having fun creating their own artwork.
