playroom
A room in a house where children play with toys.
A playroom is a room in a house set aside specifically for children to play in. Unlike a bedroom where you sleep or a kitchen where meals are prepared, a playroom's whole purpose is fun and games. You might find toys scattered across the floor, board games stacked on shelves, art supplies ready for projects, or building blocks waiting to become castles.
Having a dedicated playroom means kids can spread out their LEGO creations without worrying about someone needing the dining table for dinner. They can leave a half-finished puzzle on the floor overnight or set up an elaborate train track that doesn't have to be put away immediately. The room becomes a space where imagination runs free and making a mess is expected, not forbidden.
Not every house has a playroom. Some families use a basement, spare bedroom, or a corner of the living room as their play space. What makes it a playroom isn't the size or location but the purpose: it's a place where play comes first and where kids can be creative, noisy, and messy without disrupting the rest of the household.
