popularity
Being liked or chosen by many people.
Popularity means being liked, admired, or chosen by many people. A popular student might have lots of friends who want to sit with them at lunch. A popular book flies off the library shelves because so many kids want to read it. A popular flavor of ice cream is the one that sells out fastest.
Popularity comes in different forms. Sometimes people are popular because they're genuinely kind, funny, or talented at something others admire. A teacher might be popular because she makes learning exciting. A musician might gain popularity because his songs connect with how people feel.
Other times, people chase popularity by trying to fit in, showing off, or going along with whatever seems cool at the moment. This kind of popularity can feel hollow and doesn't last. Popularity that grows naturally often comes from being genuine, treating others well, and developing real interests and talents, even if not everyone notices right away.
