postman
A person whose job is to deliver mail and packages.
A postman (also called a mail carrier or letter carrier) is a person whose job is to deliver mail to homes and businesses. Every weekday, postmen walk or drive along their assigned routes, bringing letters, packages, bills, and postcards to the right addresses.
Before email and text messages, postmen were vital connectors between people. A soldier far from home would write letters to his family, and the postman made sure those precious messages arrived. Birthday cards from grandparents, college acceptance letters, important documents: the postman brought them all, no matter the weather. Even today, when most people send digital messages instantly, postmen still deliver packages, medicine, birthday presents, and official documents that need to arrive in physical form.
The job requires reliability and attention to detail. A postman must know their route well and make sure each piece of mail reaches the correct address. They work in rain, snow, heat, and cold. In some rural areas, postmen might drive long distances between houses. In cities, they often walk miles each day carrying heavy bags.
Today, both men and women work as postal carriers, so you might also hear “postal worker” or simply “mail carrier.”
