A preserver is someone or something that protects, maintains, or saves things from being damaged, destroyed, or forgotten. When you preserve something, you keep it safe so it can last into the future, and a preserver is what does that work.

When a community works to save an old historic building from being demolished, they're acting as preservers of their town's heritage. A preserver doesn't let valuable things disappear or decay. They guard them, protect them, and ensure they survive.
