reconsider
To think about a decision again and maybe change it.
To reconsider means to think about something again, usually with the possibility of changing your mind. When you reconsider a decision, you're giving yourself permission to look at it with fresh eyes, weighing whether your original choice still makes sense.
Maybe you declined an invitation to join the robotics club, but after hearing more about their projects, you reconsider and decide to sign up after all. Or perhaps a teacher reconsidered the due date for an assignment after students explained they had three other projects that same week.
Reconsidering isn't the same as being wishy-washy or indecisive. It means you're willing to think carefully about new information or perspectives. Reconsidering when circumstances change, or when you realize you didn't have all the facts, shows flexibility and thoughtfulness.
When a judge says she'll reconsider her ruling, or when parents reconsider their “no” after hearing a well-reasoned argument, they're demonstrating intellectual flexibility.
