reestablish
To set something up again after it was lost.
To reestablish something means to set it up or create it again after it has been lost, broken, or gone away. When you reestablish a routine, you're returning to a schedule or habit that had fallen apart. When a country reestablishes diplomatic relations with another nation, they're rebuilding a connection that had been cut off.
Reestablishing is establishing something for a second (or third, or fourth) time. A family might reestablish their weekly game night after months of being too busy. A student might need to reestablish good study habits after a long summer break. An athlete recovering from an injury works to reestablish the strength and skills they had before.
Sometimes reestablishing something is harder than establishing it the first time, because you have to overcome whatever caused the break. But sometimes it's easier, because you already know what worked before. When trust between friends has been damaged, they might need to reestablish it through honest conversations and keeping promises. The word carries a sense of restoration: bringing back something valuable that was there before.
