regimen
A planned routine you follow regularly to reach a goal.
A regimen is a planned, regular system of activities designed to achieve a specific goal, especially related to health, fitness, or medical treatment. When a doctor prescribes a regimen of physical therapy after someone breaks their arm, they're outlining exactly what exercises to do, how often, and for how long. When an athlete follows a training regimen, they stick to a careful schedule of workouts, rest days, and nutrition.
The key to a regimen is consistency and structure. A regimen means doing something regularly on a set schedule, not just when you feel like it. A morning regimen might include waking at the same time, stretching, eating breakfast, and reviewing your goals for the day. A study regimen could mean spending thirty minutes on vocabulary every afternoon, then an hour on math before dinner.
People often create regimens when they want to improve at something or maintain good health. A musician might follow a practice regimen, playing scales for fifteen minutes, then working on difficult passages, then playing through complete pieces. The word suggests discipline and commitment: following through even when it's not exciting, because you know the routine will lead to results over time.
