remove
To take something away or make it go away.
To remove means to take something away from where it is or to make it go away completely. When you remove your shoes before entering a house, you take them off. When a teacher removes a disruptive student from class, she sends them somewhere else. When a dentist removes a tooth, it's gone for good.
The word suggests deliberate elimination or getting rid of something. A stain remover is designed to make stains disappear from clothing. A surgeon might remove a splinter from your finger. Computer software can remove viruses that infect your system.
Removal is the noun form. Snow removal means clearing snow away from streets and sidewalks. The removal of a tree from your yard means cutting it down and hauling it away.
You might hear someone say they want to remove themselves from a situation, meaning they want to leave or separate themselves from what's happening. A student might remove themself from an argument between friends by walking away. Notice that remove often implies purpose and intention: you're taking something away for a specific reason, whether to clean up, fix a problem, or create space for something new.
