What happens because of something else; the outcome.
A result is what happens because of something else, the outcome or consequence of an action or event. When you study hard for a spelling test, a good grade is the result of your effort. When you mix baking soda and vinegar, the fizzing eruption is the result of a chemical reaction.
Results can be intended or unintended. A soccer team practices all season with the result that they win the championship. But sometimes results surprise us: you might plant tomato seeds expecting a harvest, only to get a garden full of weeds as a result of neglecting to water them.
Scientists conduct experiments specifically to observe results and understand what causes what. They change one thing, called a variable, and carefully measure the results to see what happens. In math, the result of adding 47 and 28 is 75.
When your teacher says “I'll share the test results tomorrow,” she means she'll reveal the scores, the results of everyone's work.
