resurrection
Coming back to life after being dead.
Resurrection means coming back to life after dying. The word appears most importantly in Christianity, where Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday is the central belief of the faith.
Outside of religion, people use resurrection more loosely to describe something that seemed dead or finished but has come back. A canceled TV show that returns years later experiences a resurrection. A musician whose career had ended might stage a resurrection with a surprising comeback album. A garden that looked completely dead in winter is resurrected when spring arrives and new growth appears.
When you hear about a resurrection, whether literal or figurative, you're witnessing something that appeared to be over but has somehow returned to life.
