rover
A person or vehicle that travels around exploring places.
Rover is a name often given to dogs, especially in older stories and movies. It became popular because it suggests a dog that likes to roam and explore, wandering around the neighborhood or countryside with curiosity and energy. When you call a dog Rover, you're giving it a name that captures the spirit of adventure many dogs have.
The word also means someone who roams or travels without a fixed destination. A rover might wander from place to place, exploring new areas just for the joy of discovery.
More recently, we use rover for vehicles that explore other planets. The Mars rovers, like Curiosity and Perseverance, are robotic vehicles that rove across the Martian surface, examining rocks and soil, taking pictures, and sending discoveries back to Earth. These rovers got their name because they roam across an entire planet, going wherever scientists direct them in order to make new discoveries. Just like a curious dog named Rover might explore every corner of a park, a Mars rover explores the Red Planet, helping us understand worlds beyond our own.
